Join Kim from Weaver's Bees and learn about the importance of honeybees for agriculture, food production and our environment.  We will cover the effect of African bees on North American bees, the general life cycle of a bee hive and how bees and honey can benefit us.  You will also have the opportunity to sample honey and honey comb.   

Kim Weaver lives in the Columbia Valley and has been a Bee Master for over 40 years.

Coffee and Tea Expo

Join us at Copper Point Resort on Saturday March 4.  Coffee, tea, honey and more will be available for purchase from a variety of exhibitors.  There will be lots of sampling and an opportunity to vote for your favourite coffee.  Even better...entry is FREE!  There will be a kids colour table set up to help entertain the little ones. 

At 12:00pm we will be hosting the 2017 Kootenay AeroPress Championship.  Professionals and home brewers will compete for the best brew using the AeroPress.  The winner moves onto  the national championship in Calgary.  

Local blues musician Big Eli B will be on stage with amazing music and outstanding guitar.  

Come hungry!  The David Thompson Secondary School will be selling baked goods during the Expo to help raise funds for their new bread oven.

In this tasting, we will sample and compare black teas only from different parts of the world, including China, India, Taiwan and Nepal. Experience the cracking sounds, the changing colours, and the smells of coffee roasting.  Learn about the techniques that influence the coffee you drink, by having the hands on control to help to roast a batch of coffee.  Participants will not only get hands on opportunity to roast coffee, they will also get to take a pound of the coffee they helped to roast to take home! Because our coffee roaster is small, our batches are small, our space is tight- number of participants is limited to 4 - so book now!

Participants will meet at Gerry's Gelati and move onto the roasting facility from there.

Cold brew coffee is quickly becoming a favourite drink among coffee drinkers.  The long brewing time without the use of hot water produces a coffee concentrate that is perfect for hiking, camping and just enjoying a very enjoyable coffee.  Learn how to make cold brew, and sample different variations.  Each participant will leave the workshop with their own Coffee Sock brewing kit and the know how to make cold brew at home.

Kootenay AeroPress Championship

Kootenay AeroPress Championship

Competitors will brew to the (not so) bitter end in this fast paced, light hearted event.  Professionals and home brewers are all welcome to compete.  The winner will receive free entry to the national competition held in Calgary in May.  He or she will also receive free accommodation in Calgary.  

Every competitor will be brewing a special roast of Kicking Horse Coffee provided.

The Rules:  we will be using the rules established by the World AeroPress Championship.  For full rules visit the World AeroPress Championship site

Local Rules:  Competitors will be brewing Kicking Horse Coffee AeroPress Roast, roasted specifically for this competition.  Each competitor will receive a 12oz bag prior to competition.  

Hot water and a grinder will be available however you are welcome to bring your own.  If you wish to use a scale you must provide your own.

The Expo is returning to Coffee Fest at Copper Point Resort on Saturday March 5. The Expo floor is packed with specialty coffee roasters, fine tea purveyors, product wholesalers, and many others that will help you bring your coffee and tea experience to the next level.

A new addition to Expo this year is the Kootenay AeroPress Championship.
